History: My father's, Jim Jackson, first car was a red 1959 Plymouth Sport Fury. It was totaled, so he got another one. It was black. Of course, he missed they days gone by and started to look for another one. He bought a 1959 Savoy 2-door post (Flathead Six and a 3 speed manual), and then he got a 1959 Belvedere 4-door for parts. This was not good enough. In 1998, I found a Sport Fury in Albuquerque, NM. We drove a grueling 23-hour round-trip to get the car. We crawled around in the mud to look at it. By the time the final price was reached the mud had turned solid and it was 4 degrees outside. To make matters worse, the heater on the truck died. We finally got home and thawed out. The car went into storage. These are the pictures from July 28, 2002, when we pulled the car out of storage. More pictures will come as the restoration and modifications begin.
Latest News: My father passed away on June 2, 2003 while participating in the Hot Rod Power Tour. He was only 58 and was enjoying retirement to the fullest. My plans are to still build the Sport Fury, because in a way, I can still enjoy his company.
Future Plans:
Engine: 392 HEMI, TPI w/Centrifugul Blower
Trans: 700R4 Automatic w/OD
Rearend: Narrowed 9" Ford with 4:30 Detroit Locker or an IRS.
The look I'm going after is more of a Pro-Touring look: 17"-20" wheels, tubular A-Arms, air-bag suspension, 4 wheel disc brakes, modern fuel delivery system, modern ignition system, etc. However, The body should remain stock appearing, but smoothed and shaved and LOW.
